How do I get my site listed on search engines and directories?
Getting listed on search engines is not automatic when your site is live. There are 3 ways your site can get listed on search engines and directories:
- You submit your site to each individual search engine and/or directory. To do this, go to each search engine and/or directory and look for a link to submit your site. Please see How do I submit my site to Search Engines for free on my own?
Important: Make sure you submit the exact full address of the first page in your index. It should include the /page/page/12345.htm that follows your address or if you have a friendly url, it should include the /FRIENDLYURLHERE.html adddress. Although when you enter in just your web address (e.g. www.abc.musicbizwebsitepro.com), it actually forwards to whatever page is first in your index, most search engines will not accept a site address which forwards as they think you are trying to cheat with a doorway page that helps increase your ranking.
- You hire a company to submit your site to search engines and/or directories. Companies that provide this service often have several ways of getting your site listed higher up. They also often have the option of signing you up to just a few search engine or hundreds or thousands of search engines and/or directories.
- Your site is randomly found by a spider or bot and indexed. Many major search engines and/or directories regularly send out a spider or bot to rove the internet and index sites not yet in their listing. There is no guarantee that your site will get listed this way.
Remember 85% of all website traffic comes from search engine results.

Is there a counter on my site?
Yes, a counter can be found on your site if you click on "Tools" and then look at the top right of your page. This counter counts 1 page view everytime any page of your site is clicked on whether it be by you or any visitor to your site.
If you would prefer a counter which counts unique hits, i.e. 1 count for each visitor who comes to your site, you can get a good free counter at http://statcounter.com, http://www.digits.com/create.html, http://www.sitemeter.com, http://www.internetseer.com (or you can do a search on Google.com for a different counter). To add the code, we have a handy tool so you need only copy in the code once and then you can check off which pages you would like it to apply to. Once you get the code, follow these steps:
- Click on "Manage Pages" from your toolbar.
- Click on "Power Tools."

- Click on "Add Tracking Code to your pages."

- Copy (highlight and press CTRL-C) and paste (press CTRL-V) your counter code in the Tracking Code box and click on the "Save" button.

- Then, check boxes will appear. Put a checkmark by the pages you would like the counter to be on and click on the "Save" button.

You're done!
